A multimedia project exploring the complexities of carrying a Japanese identity in a foreign country. It includes a visual archival website that guides users through a virtual home to a desktop filled with unnamed folders, inviting exploration of ASCII art, photographs, and reflective blurbs. A zine complements the website by delving into themes of identity, stereotypes, and self-perception through monotype and ASCII art, fostering dialogue on how identity shapes us. The narrative expands into a DVD package featuring two discs that chronicle the creator’s journey of dismantling and embracing their Japanese identity, using Handycam footage, internet GIFs, and language. The project’s personal yet relatable approach invites audiences to connect with the experience of an identity crisis and the reconciliation of cultural heritage.
